Sit down if
You want a game where every win and loss is clearly on you.
Walk away if
You enjoy the chaos of big random swings.
♠The table
You fight through a series of short battles on a single horizontal line. Your attacks are tiles in a small deck: a sword strike, an arrow, a spear thrust and so on. Between fights you upgrade tiles, add new ones and pick routes toward a final boss.
♥How a hand plays
Every action takes time, and enemies show exactly what they will do and when. You position yourself, queue tiles in order and then execute them together, or move and wait. Turning around, pushing enemies into each other and timing a combo just before they act is the whole game, and it is deeply satisfying.
♣Where luck comes in
Very little. Enemy waves and shop offers vary, but combat itself is almost pure information. If you lose a fight, you can usually see exactly which move was wrong. That makes it the most skill-driven game on our table.
The luck meter is our estimate of how much a typical run depends on chance. It is not part of the score. How we estimate it.
♦Look & sound
Crisp, small pixel art with clear silhouettes and a calm, traditional soundtrack. Everything you need to read is on screen at all times.
♠Value & PC
Inexpensive, runs on anything and Verified on Steam Deck. Several characters, harder difficulty levels and quick runs make it ideal for short sessions.

The house verdict
Verdict
Shogun Showdown is a perfectly balanced duel. It is small and focused, and almost every turn feels like a puzzle you could solve if you only looked a little harder.
